YouTube Picture In Picture Mode IOS – The Picture in Picture mode is a well-known feature on any service or app offering visual or audio services on mobile devices. It is well accustomed to Android devices as most video apps on the operating system automatically have this mode from Netflix to VLC and even YouTube.
The feature has just been released to YouTube on IOS devices. It allows you to simultaneously watch YouTube videos while going through your IOS device. For example, you can check that Instagram notification saying your favorite Instagram model just added a new post while watching a video on YouTube.
What is Picture in Picture Mode on IOS Device?
If you’re not familiar with this, this is how it works. Once in the YouTube app or website, watching a video and you decide to leave YouTube’s screen to go check out something else on your IOS device, the video will switch from the main screen to a subsidiary small window.
This window by default will be located at the bottom of your screen still playing the YouTube video. You can move the window to any part of the screen you’d prefer or increase and decrease its size.
There are a few additional things you need to know about this feature on IOS devices. Firstly, it’s only available to YouTube premium members. YouTube has stated that it plans on rolling the feature to all kinds of YouTube users on iPhone devices in the U.S soon.
Furthermore, the feature isn’t yet available in the YouTube IOS app, and as such to use the PiP mode, you’d have to make use of a browser.
How to Enable PiP Mode on YouTube IOS
- Open a web browser, preferably Chrome, and navigate to YouTube’s website.
- Sign in to YouTube via your Premium subscription-activated account.
- Locate the video you wish to watch and tap on it to watch.
- Then switch to “Full-Screen Mode” by tapping on the box icon at the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Tap on the video to view controls and select the picture in picture mode on the top left corner. Also, you can swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen to go into PiP mode.
How to Exit PiP Mode On YouTube IOS
It’s simple, just tap on the same icon you tapped on to activate it located at the top right corner of the midget windows the YouTube video is playing from. You can also move it to its original size by tapping twice with two fingers on the window.
Better still, you could cancel the video altogether by hitting on the “X” button.
