WhatsApp users know that anything related to calls whether video or voice can only be done through their mobile devices. Its call quality is great but unlike programs like Zoom, calls can’t work when tried with desktops or laptops.
WhatsApp just rolled out a new feature for their desktop app that allows users to voice or video call through the app. Although the feature won’t be coming to WhatsApp web, we won’t always have to pick up our phones whenever we receive calls on WhatsApp while working on our laptops.
A lot of calls were made through WhatsApp during the pandemic last year as the Facebook-owned service stated that it processed over 1.4 billion calls on New year’s eve. WhatsApp understands that its end-to-end encrypted calling system is becoming more sought after thus this new update.
How to Make WhatsApp Voice and Video Calls Using Desktop
WhatsApp announced this update via a tweet in which they shared a link to download the app for desktops. This means that to enable this feature on your WhatsApp desktop app; you have to update it or download the latest version of WhatsApp available for your system’s OS.
Your device must be connected to the internet. WhatsApp will need access to your system’s microphone or webcam depending on if it’s a voice or video call.
- Open the conversation of the person you’d like to call.
- Click on the voice or video call icon depending on which one you want. Just like you do with WhatsApp on your mobile device.
Do note that the WhatsApp desktop app only supports one on one voice calls for now. The Instant messaging service also said that it will add support for video and group video calls in the nearest future for its desktop app.
